What are energy centres? The rainbow body, chakras and your toroidal field

Having a basic understanding of energy centres can be deeply beneficial to anyone, not just practitioners. It can help you be more self-aware, know how to return to harmony and understand imbalances you feel in your body and mind, rather than spiraling into lower emotions or self-judgement straight away. This blog aims to give you the basic information about the chakra system (or energy centres) and other interesting and related concepts. Enjoy the journey.

The basics—Why this matters

Energy centres influence physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Some of my clients see colours during their energy healing sessions, it's always fascinating to hear them describe it, because the colours they perceive are usually related to the energy centre I've been working on during the session.

To put it simply: different energy centres correspond to different aspects of a person's health and wellbeing. For example, if someone is experiencing issues related to self-esteem, I focus on the Solar Plexus. If I'm giving an Access Bars session, I'm working specifically with the energy field of the mind—related to belief systems, thought patterns, habits, and the stories we hold within that energy centre.

Releasing the energy of this area can create a renewed flow that opens the client to infinite possibilities, increased self-awareness, and creativity. People basically start thinking outside the box!

Energy centres are not only tools for healing but also for personal growth and self-awareness. Understanding and working with your own centres can support your energetic balance, leading to deeper wellbeing and self-understanding.

Chakra system or energy centers

Main energy centres or chakra system

What are energy centres?

"Chakra" is a word in Sanskrit—an ancient language from India that means "wheel, spiral" or "cycle." I prefer to call them energy centres, as it connects more naturally to the rainbow body and the elements present in shamanic and mystical teachings.

Keep in mind that the seven centres are the main ones but every part of our body has an energy centre of its own.

The rainbow lightbody

Since ancient times, the energy field of the human body has also been called the rainbow lightbody. From Tibetan monks to the Essenes and early depictions in Christian paintings—the rainbow lightbody is a concept present in many schools and lineages across the world.

The colours of the chakra system are themselves a representation of the rainbow. In many mystical and shamanic traditions, the practitioner develops skills to expand their rainbow body, which over time, with practice and integration, increases in size, becoming a strong, expanded, and balanced energy field.

In my shamanic path, the rainbow is part of my studies because it is directly related to higher vibrational beings and my own energy field. The Munay-Ki Rites (a shamanic energy transmission) initiate the student into working with their own rainbow body and the elements within us from a shamanic point of view.

In Andean shamanism, my lineage, the rainbow colours relate to the energy centres—as in the chakra system—but also to the alchemical elements: earth, water, fire, and air. And further still, each colour and element relates to an animal spirit or master teacher. During the Munay-Ki initiation, the student learns more deeply about these shamanic principles.

The world of shamanism goes back to the beginning of time, it is the very first energy healing modality, and only now, in modern times, is it being reclaimed by rainbow souls incarnated in human form. It makes total sense that today, with access to so much information, integration becomes possible as we study, overlap, and make connections between different beliefs and mystical schools.

Your human energy field: The toroidal field

Everything in the universe, including you, is made of energy. Your energy field surrounds your body like a glowing bubble, constantly interacting with the world around you. This field is not just a vague concept, it has a specific shape known as the toroidal field.

Imagine a doughnut of energy flowing through you—moving up from your feet, out through your head, around your body, and back in through your feet again. This continuous movement keeps your energy flowing and balanced. The energy centres are aligned within your body from the root at the base of your spine to the top of your head and beyond.

How to know when your energy field is out of harmony

Notice when you start to feel heavy —when suddenly nothing in life feels exciting, everything feels slow, or there's a radical shift in your mood.

This means your toroidal field is shrinking, or your vibration has shifted, which affects the size of your energy field. There's nothing wrong with that — we are energetic beings, constantly receiving input from our environment. Every piece of information (energy) affects your field and, by default, your body. This includes everything we feed ourselves with: TV, news, social media, movies, conversations, family points of view, your boss, your partner, a concert — all of it.

Why does the toroidal field shrink?

Sometimes our toroidal field becomes smaller or weaker. This can happen when:

  • We experience stress, fear, anxiety, or emotional exhaustion

  • We are disconnected from nature and our inner self

  • We give more than we receive, taking in too much external energy without replenishing our own

  • We hold on to limiting beliefs or past trauma and many times, these stories aren't even ours

When this happens, we may feel tired, ungrounded, or disconnected. The good news? Reiki, Access Bars, coaching, grounding, laughter, play, and conscious awareness all help restore and expand your energy field, bringing you back to balance.

What you can do today to support your energy

Start by nurturing the harmony between body, mind, and spirit. Your energy field reflects your internal state: what you eat, think, feel, and expose yourself to.

  • Grounding and connection with nature — helps anchor your energy and reminds your system of its natural rhythm

  • Hydration and nourishing foods — keeps your energy flowing with vitality

  • Energy healing, movement, and rest — regulates your nervous system, allowing energy to circulate freely

  • Emotional awareness and release — through journalling, sound, or somatic practices, prevents stagnation in your field

  • Energetic hygiene — practices such as smoke cleansing, salt baths, and intentional visualisation help clear external energies

  • Spiritual alignment — meditation, prayer, energy healing, or connecting to your higher guidance rebalances your centres with purpose and clarity

Ultimately, supporting your energy field means living in presence, authenticity, and reverence for your own rhythm — allowing energy to move as nature intended.
